The Lagos State Government has revealed that at least 133 human lives and N19.72 billion worth of property were lost to various fire incidents in 2025.
This is a terrible rise from 2024, when fire accidents in Lagos claimed 91 lives and destroyed property valued at N19.52 billion.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service Year 2025 Activity Report, which was presented at the Y2026 Staff Engagement with the theme “People, Preparedness and Service Delivery: Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service,” which took place on Tuesday at Alausa, Ikeja, included the most recent data.
The report states that throughout the reviewed time, 2,617 calls were made, 645 of which were false in 1,685 fire occurrences.

Fortunately, N118.32 billion worth of property was spared and 473 victims were saved alive.
Additionally, 8,791 establishments were examined, 7,997 certifications were issued, and 90 reports were issued as part of fire prevention efforts.

Margaret Adeseye, Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, emphasised in her speech that despite the service’s accomplishments, it still encounters operational difficulties, such as fraudulent calls and insufficient water supply during emergency response.
