2.2 Million Candidates Sit 2026 UTME Nationwide as Exams Begin

At least 2.2 million candidates are anticpated to sit the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination(UTME), which commenced nationwide on Thursday.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board is expected to administer the exams across all the nation’s approved locations from April 16 to April 22.

Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, the JAMB Registrar, urged examination staff to show professionalism and dedication. Furthermore, he pointed out that their performance is crucial to the exercise’s success.

Oloyede gave the charge during a virtual briefing for technical officers ahead of the examination.

He applauded employees and service providers for their contributions to the mock exam, he pointed out that the majority of issues observed were caused by insufficient center assessment.

According to the registrar, teams that perform very well will receive incentive packages that include prompt management of exam materials and report submission.

He also cautioned candidates against bringing forbidden objects into exam rooms and reaffirmed the board’s zero-tolerance policy regarding exam malpractice.

He further stated that real-time monitoring mechanisms and biometric verification have been implemented to guarantee the examination’s legitimacy.

Additionally, Oloyede added that candidates whose biometric details could not be verified would be rescheduled to take the examination at designated centres.

The UTME is one of the country’s largest coordinated examinations, involving extensive logistics and personnel nationwide.
