The APC ward congress in Idanre, Ondo state, was marred by fresh wave violence on Wednesday, which resulted in two fatalities and five injuries.
The incident happened at Idanre LGA’s headquarters, Odode-Idanre, while the ruling party held congresses in each of the state’s 203 wards.

The disturbance is thought to have spread from Tuesday’s pre-congress stakeholders’ meeting where suspected thugs invaded the party secretariat in Akure, leaving many injured and the state chairman and a commissioner beaten.
According to information obtained, Raphael Adetimehin, the younger brother of the party’s State Caretaker Chairman Ade Adetimehin, was allegedly attacked on Tuesday as part of the most recent crisis.

Reports revealed that Raphael was attacked at his ward in Idanre, the APC chairman’s hometown, and his car was also set on fire by the attackers. After suffering machete wounds, Raphael was taken to the General Hospital in Idanre.
Ade Adetimehin confirmed the story, claiming that because of their striking likeness, the attackers thought his brother was him.
“They targeted my brother because they thought he was me. They shot him several times but bullets could not penetrate, so, he was cut several times with a cutlass and is now in a coma at the hospital.”

When reached, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state confirmed the violence outbreak at the APC ward congress, noting that five persons yet to be identified were reportedly attacked, and a vehicle was set ablaze.
It was also learned that violence in the Akure North Local Government Area, namely in Iju, disrupted the APC ward congress. It was said that fighting ruined the event.
