    AWS CEO Adam Selipsky resigns

Adam Selipsky is stepping down as CEO of Amazon Web Services (AWS), with Matt Garman set to take over. Selipsky, who previously headed AWS sales, returned to Amazon in 2021 after a stint as CEO of Tableau. Garman, who joined AWS in 2006, will assume the role effective June 3rd, having previously overseen AWS’ EC2 cloud computing org.

Selipsky’s departure comes amid perceived missteps in the generative AI domain. AWS reportedly faced technical issues delaying the launch of its generative AI model, Bedrock, and missed investment opportunities in leading AI startups. Despite challenges, under Selipsky’s leadership, AWS reached a $100 billion annual revenue run rate, maintaining its position as the cloud leader with around 31% market share.

AWS’ recent fiscal quarter saw $9.42 billion in operating income, emphasizing its significance within Amazon’s business. Jassy praised Selipsky for his leadership during challenging times, highlighting AWS’ continued revenue growth and dedication to customer service.
