The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rejected claims of result manipulation at Kuroko Health Centre polling unit in Yangoji Ward, Kwali Area Council, Federal Capital Territory, describing the allegations as false and misleading.

The controversy arose after online reports suggested that a political party allegedly scored 1,219 votes at a polling unit with only 345 registered voters and 213 accredited voters during Saturday’s Area Council election.
In a press release, INEC clarified that the discrepancy resulted from an error by the Presiding Officer while recording the results. Initially, the officer recorded “122 for APC” but identified a mistake after tallying the ballots.
Following an open recount, the figure was corrected to 121 votes. The officer corrected the error by canceling the “2” at the end and inserting a “1” in front to reflect the accurate total of 121.
INEC confirmed that the corrected result was the official figure uploaded to its Result Viewing Portal and used during collation at both the ward and Area Council levels.
It stressed that “the official result recorded and uploaded from the said polling unit shows that the political party in question scored 121 votes, not 1,219 as alleged on social media,” adding that party agents present at the polling unit confirmed and signed the final result.
The commission further explained that its electoral technology makes the alleged manipulation impossible.
It stated that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System ,BVAS, validates entries to ensure total votes do not exceed accredited voters and automatically flags over voting.
INEC said if the disputed figure had been entered, “the BVAS device would have rejected the entry instantly,” noting that the number of accredited voters remained 213 and all recorded votes were consistent with that figure.
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency, INEC maintained that its Result Viewing Portal mirrors results directly from polling units and allows public verification.
The commission assured voters that its result management process contained safeguards designed to prevent falsification and urged the public to rely on verified information regarding election outcomes.
