Anambara fatal accident: FRSC points to over speeding

A fatal road accident occurred in Anambra State, resulting in the loss of four lives. According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the crash was caused by uncontrolled speeding.

The incident happened along the Idemili River by the Second Niger Bridge in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambara State.

The accident involved a 40-foot container truck, a shuttle bus, and some tricycles. Eyewitnesses reported that the truck’s driver lost control of the vehicle while descending a hill, resulting in a collision with other vehicles and bystanders, killing some people instantly.

The FRSC spokesperson in Anambra State, Margaret Onabe, confirmed the incident on Thursday and advised motorists and road users to avoid over speeding.

She stated that four people died in the crash, while two others sustained injuries to different degrees.

A total of six people were involved in the accident, including two adult males and four adult females. The FRSC officials arrived at the scene to clear the wreckage and restore traffic flow. The injured victims were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The FRSC has warned motorists to exercise caution and avoid excessive speeding, which can compromise their safety on the road.

She said “A tragic accident occurred on Tuesday evening along the Idemili River by the Second Niger Bridge. A trailer with an unstrapped container collided with five other vehicles, including a bus and four tricycles parked by the roadside. This incident resulted in the deaths of four individuals and left two others with varying degrees of injury.

“A total of six people were involved in the crash: two adult males and four adult females. The cause of the accident was attributed to excessive speed and loss of control.

“According to eyewitnesses, the driver of a brown Mercedes trailer without a registration number was descending a hill at high speed, lost control, and crashed into five other vehicles.

“The vehicles involved included: A white commercial bus with registration number XED526XA; A blue Bajaj tricycle with no registration number; A yellow Bajaj tricycle with no registration number; Another yellow Bajaj tricycle with no registration number; A third yellow Bajaj tricycle with no registration number.”

“The two deceased victims were taken to Crown Hospital, while the other two were transported to St. Edward Hospital in Obosi. The two injured individuals were sent to Unity Hospital Obosi.

“Upon being notified, FRSC operatives were quickly deployed to implement temporary safety measures while an investigation into the crash commenced.
