Mr. Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), stated Wednesday that the ruling party does not intend to make Nigeria a one-party state, even in light of the recent wave of defections.
He said that the Peoples Democratic Party, ruled over 28 states when in power and was not charged with making the nation a one-party state.

If PDP and Labour Party members want to align themselves with the ruling party’s procedures, Morka stated there is nothing wrong with them switching to the APC.
He said: “Many of these people are coming in and saying, we want to be part of the process. We want to identify with that process. There’s nothing wrong with that. And you know, that does not mean that we desire for Nigeria to then become a one party system.
“As our country, both in the Constitution, in Electoral Act, and a plethora of other laws, have embedded systems that unmistakably make Nigeria a multi party and pluralist society. So, we cannot as a party desire to go against the force of the Constitution, to say we want a party. Because to do that, you have to change a lot, which is nearly impossible to change.”

According to the party’s spokesman, the APC is solely concerned with how it will continue to defend itself, rejecting the one-party narrative.
Meanwhile, the party’s national chairman had previously stated that one party state for Nigeria is not the worst thing, citing countries practicing the same system like China. He further added that too many cooks will spoil the soup.
