Tinubu to Wike – We will welcome you to APC whenever you decide to join us

President Bola Tinubu has delared an open welcome to  Wike, stating that he will welcome Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) whenever he chooses to officially become a member .

President Tinubu, who was speaking during the inauguration of the Arterial Road N16 and other facilities in the Katampe District of Abuja, praised the FCT minister’s leadership and made a playful reference to the minister’s signature song from his past campaign rallies.

“We have somebody—Nyesom Wike—he is not a member of my party (APC), not yet.

“But the day he changes his mind and registers with the progressives, we will welcome him. Because we will enjoy singing ‘as e dey pain dem, e dey sweet us,’” Tinubu said.

The President’s statement drew laughter from the audience, including Wike himself, reflecting a continued mutuality between the two political figures.

Since openly endorsing Tinubu in the general election of 2023, Wike, a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has sparked political debate.

In August 2023, he was sworn in as the FCT Minister after accepting a cabinet position from the APC-led government, although staying in the PDP after Tinubu won the higly contentious presidential election.
