Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory’s minister, led three former PDP governors to visit President Bola Tinubu on Saturday.
Wike’s close PDP allies and members of the now-defunct G5, a group that broke with the party leadership in the run-up to the 2023 election, attended the meeting at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa.

Former governors of Ekiti, Benue, and Abia States, respectively, Ayodele Fayose, Samuel Ortom, and Okezie Ikpeazu, attended the conference.
The conference is thought to be a step towards political realignment in advance of the general elections in 2027, albeit the details of their discussions were not made public.

Recall that Wike spearheaded the G5 governors in their efforts to oppose the PDP and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, prior to the 2023 election.
The governors contended that the party’s presidential ticket ought to have been assigned to the South in opposition to Atiku’s rise to prominence as the party’s nominee.
The ensuing conflict led the G5 governors to back Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) presidential candidate.
He was named Minister of the FCT by Tinubu following his election victory.
