In retaliation for US assaults on its nuclear facilities, Iranian lawmakers yesterday voted to shut down the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil shipping route.
The vote was held just hours after the country’s authorities said there were no indications of contamination at its nuclear sites after the US air strikes that destroyed its three nuclear sites late Saturday night would have permanent repercussions.

Though the final decision to close the oil choke points remains with top Iranian security officials, (Supreme National Security Council), according to reports, an attempt to shut the oil route risks triggering a fresh round of energy crisis and global recession.
According to analysts, Iran could cause an oil supply shock, raise prices, and start a global recession if it goes ahead to block commerce via the strait by threatening ships with mines or missiles.

Additionally, they cautioned that the United States and its allies might respond militarily.
“The US has a massive military presence in the Gulf and surrounding region, and a move by Iran against the strait would almost certainly trigger a significant military response,” Eurasia Group wrote in a letter to clients.

Meanwhile in video clips circulating social media, some youth groups in Nasarawa and Katsina states staged a street demonstration allegedly in support of Iranians following US air strikes.
