Osun governor yields to pressure, initiates design contest for new state logo.
Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke responds to pressure, initiating a design competition for a new state logo from April 19th to 26th. The move follows Adeleke’s recent approval of a bill for the logo change, symbolizing a “rebirth” for the state. Adeleke emphasizes the logo’s educational and marketing significance, incorporating landmarks, resources, and history.
Despite criticism from various quarters, including opposition parties like the Osun State APM, the government proceeds with the logo change. Adeleke will unveil the finalized 3D version during a stakeholders’ meeting on April 30th. Submission guidelines for the design competition stress adherence to the prototype’s content and style. This initiative comes after the repeal of a law validating the public use of the state’s anthem, crest, and flag in July 2023, introduced during the Aregbesola administration, which also announced the renaming of Osun state as the ‘State of Osun’.
