In a bid to curb this disturbing trend, the Abia State government has instructed security agencies to take firm action against those involved, labeling them as undesirable elements posing a threat to public peace.

This was revealed by the Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, during a press briefing held at the Abia State Government House in Umuahia on Monday. He briefed journalists on the outcomes of the week’s executive council meeting, which was chaired by Governor Alex Otti.

Kanu stressed that the Abia State Government would not tolerate any cult group disturbing the peace and safety of innocent citizens in the state.

“The state government has observed with dismay the growing incidents of cult activities in the state.

“As a responsible government, this administration will spare no efforts in ensuring that the State is rid of cult activities,” Kanu said.

He also announced that staff of Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba, who were disengaged by the previous administration between 2018 and 2022, have begun receiving their outstanding entitlements, with 249 individuals already paid.

Additionally, Kanu revealed that the recruitment of health workers, recently approved by Governor Otti, has commenced. The application portals have been opened by the Abia State Civil Service Commission for interested candidates.
