Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has relieved Ayuba Mohammed Gital, the Acting Bursar of Sa’adu Zungur State University (SAZU), of his duties due to allegations of financial mismanagement and a lack of accountability.
The Bauchi governor made the announcement on Tuesday in Bauchi while receiving the report of a visitation panel that investigated the university’s administrative and financial operations. He expressed serious concern over what he described as poor financial handling at the institution since its inception in 2012.
Bauchi Governor Mohammed also disclosed plans to set up an audit committee to probe the management of student fees and other internally generated revenues within the university.
Prof. Gambo Laraba Abdullahi, Chairperson of the visitation panel, explained that the panel carried out visitations across all campuses of Sa’adu Zungur State University (SAZU). She noted that their findings were drawn from 47 memoranda, including submissions from the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) highlighting issues related to funding and administrative shortcomings to the Bauchi Governor.
She further disclosed that the university’s funding allocation had recently been raised to ₦400 million, and recommended that the government reconsider the university’s multi-campus structure.
