EduPACT Summit: Governor Uba Sani Charts a Bold Education Blueprint for Kaduna

Kaduna State’s Governor, Senator Uba Sani, launched a groundbreaking education agenda this Wednesday at the inaugural EduPACT Summit—formally named the KADA EduPACT International Summit 2025—in Kaduna City. Framed under the theme “Strategic Visioning for Educational Transformation: Developing the Kaduna State Education Model,” the summit marks a bold pivot in the state’s trajectory toward holistic development through education.

Education as the Foundation of Sustainable Growth

Since assuming office in May 2023, Governor Sani has declared education the centrepiece of his administration’s developmental agenda. “Education isn’t merely a sector to manage; it’s a transformative tool,” he declared to enthusiastic applause.

Governor Sani emphasised that long-term prosperity, security, and social cohesion hinge on building an inclusive, quality, and accessible education system for every child, city, rural areas, nomadic or marginalised.

Tangible Investments & Infrastructure Scale‑Up

The strategy rolled out by the governor has delivered concrete results:

  • Over 1,000 classrooms have been constructed or refurbished.
  • 62 new secondary schools have been opened.
  • Three vocational and skills training institutes have been established in Rigachikun, Samaru Kataf, and Soba.

Notably, Governor Sani also revealed a ₦500 million injection into Kaduna State University to uplift tertiary education quality.

Embracing Digital Transformation & Curriculum Reform

Understanding the global pace of change, the administration is fast-tracking digital infrastructure across schools. Classroom devices, internet connectivity, and e-learning platforms are being deployed to ensure Kaduna’s students are digital-ready.

In parallel, a comprehensive curriculum overhaul is underway, anchored on critical thinking, digital literacy, effective problem-solving, and global citizenship. These are precisely the skills needed for graduates to thrive in the 21st-century economy

Equity, Inclusion & Outreach Programs

Kaduna’s blueprint places strong emphasis on inclusive education:

  • Provisions are being made to welcome girls, children with disabilities, nomadic learners, and those affected by conflict into learning environments.
  • The Reaching Out-of-School Children (ROOSC) Project has been set up to actively bring out‑of‑school children back into the fold.

Governor Sani clarified that, despite economic headwinds, the government is maintaining the education budget by aligning with United Nations guidelines.

Skills Acquisition & Vocational Training

A central plank of the governor’s reform agenda is vocational training. The recently completed institutes in Rigachikun, Samaru Kataf, and Soba are now equipped to deliver hands-on technical training to Kaduna’s youth, advancing job readiness and economic empowerment.

Federal & International Partnerships

Governor Sani invited collaboration from federal agencies, donors, private sector partners, and civil society groups to scale and ensure longevity for Kaduna’s education reforms.

Federal Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, praised the administration’s progress, citing:

  • A 40% reduction in tuition at state-owned tertiary institutions,
  • Substantial investments in Kaduna State University,
  • A $62 million initiative targeting basic education expansion.

Alausa affirmed that EduPACT is a timely platform for exploring financing innovations—such as blended funding involving federal, state, private, and development partners—that ensure transparent, results-driven investments.

Global Recognition & Support

The summit also attracted distinguished global representatives:

  • British Deputy High Commissioner, Mrs. Gill Lever, commended Kaduna’s leadership and pledged the UK’s ongoing support.
  • UN Deputy Secretary‑General Amina Mohammed lauded the state’s efforts to translate global education targets into local actions at a challenging time for education worldwide.

EduPACT 2025: Blueprint for the Future

Governor Sani described EduPACT 2025 as a visioning blueprint—a launchpad for six strategic pillars (detailed timelines, budgeting, and accountability structures) designed to transcend the political cycle and deliver real educational outcomes.

“This summit—the EduPACT 2025—is the blueprint for our next chapter,” he emphasised.

Participants, including policy experts, development agencies, educators, and civil society, were challenged to develop actionable strategies under each pillar that would be deliverable, measurable, and sustainable.

A Personal Commitment from Governor Sani

Governor Sani shared a personal reflection: education has shaped his own journey. His vision is for every child in Kaduna to access high-quality, inclusive education, regardless of their location, background, or ability. “A naira spent on quality education today pays dividends in societal stability, productivity, and peace,” he stated.

He urged all attendees to ensure that the summit doesn’t just generate ideas, but produces commitments: defined roadmaps, financial allocations, and performance metrics.
