Nigerian singer Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, popularly known as Iyanya, has expressed confidence that true talent will ultimately prevail in the entertainment industry.
Speaking on the current state of the industry, Iyanya remarked that while mediocrity may seem to be celebrated at times, it is only a matter of time before genuinely talented artists stand out and rise above the rest.
On his X handle, the ‘Kukere’ crooner wrote, “At the end of the day, we will separate the wack artists from the real ones.”
It was reported that mediocre practices, such as overdependence on auto-tune and songwriters, have become issues of concern in the Nigerian music industry.
Manipulation of streaming numbers and music statistics has also sparked widespread debate.
Rappers Blaqbonez and Odumodublvck have, on separate occasions, raised concerns over the “high level of streaming farms” in the Nigerian music space.
Renowned music executive Don Jazzy has previously debunked claims that he purchases “fake streams” to boost his signees’ songs on digital platforms using a “streaming farm”.
Similarly, singer Shallipopi denied allegations that he paid N9 million to buy “fake streams” to climb digital music charts.
Despite such rebuttals, allegations surrounding streaming farms and other mediocre practices continue to linger within the Nigerian music scene.
