Hundreds Defect to ADC as Party Launches Katsina Chapter Amid Criticism of Tinubu Administration
Hundreds of supporters from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Congress (APC), and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Katsina State officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Sunday, marking a significant political shift in the state.
The mass defection was announced during the official launch of the ADC’s Katsina State chapter, held at the Continental Event Center in Katsina. The movement was led by Mustapha Inuwa, the coalition leader in the state. New members, drawn from all 34 Local Government Areas, received ADC membership cards at the event.
In his remarks, Lawal Batagarawa, the Katsina State representative of the National Political Coalition Group, criticized the current state of the nation, citing rising insecurity, poverty, inflation, and the decline of the Naira. He also pointed out that numerous industries have collapsed under the administration of President Bola Tinubu, which began in 2023.
Batagarawa stressed the need for unity among citizens, party members, and supporters, expressing strong confidence that the ADC could win future elections and address issues such as terrorism, banditry, poverty, and illiteracy nationwide.
Also speaking at the event, Usman Musa Wamba, Chairman of the ADC in Katsina State, voiced optimism about the party’s performance in the 2027 general elections. He appealed for broader support, particularly from the youth, urging them to join the party to truly experience the dividends of democracy.
One of the high-profile defectors, Aliyu Saulawa—a former APC member, former Director of Media for the Buhari Campaign Organisation, and National Coordinator of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Movement—said the APC had “completely failed” to fulfill its campaign promises, especially to northern Nigerians. According to Saulawa, the ruling party has not delivered even one percent of what it promised during its most recent campaign.
“Without security, there is nothing like livelihood, and if you look at the Northwest, we are peasant farmers and merchants, and definitely if we lack security, we virtually lack everything, including the educational system that is collapsed, honestly, I cannot continue to remain in APC,” he added.
