General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida(IBB), a former military president, has stated that the prayers of Muslims and Christians have been crucial in keeping Nigeria united and has urged followers of both religions to continue praying for the nation.
Babangida made the statement on Tuesday during a visit to his Uphill Mansion in Minna by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Niger State chapter, which was organised by its chairman, Most Rev. Dr. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, to commemorate his 84th birthday.

“I really appreciate CAN for the prayers. I must tell you that the prayers of both faiths, Christians and Muslims, have been very effective, and it is what is keeping the country. I urge you to maintain the relationship in the general interest of the country and the people,” he said.
The elder statesman emphasised that harmony and peaceful cohabitation are crucial for the advancement of the country and appealed for continued friendship and tolerance between the two religions.

In his capacity as the Chairman’s representative, Rev. Joshua Markus, Vice Chairman of CAN Niger State chapter, had earlier praised Babangida for his outstanding vision and services to Nigeria, which he claimed still serve as an inspiration to many.

Noting that the state and the country greatly value the former leader’s lasting legacy, he prayed for God’s continuous blessings, good health, and fulfilment for him.
