Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has openly declared her Grammy-winning colleague, Wizkid, as the undisputed king of Afrobeats.
Ayra Starr statement comes amid the ongoing debate surrounding the dominance of Afrobeats heavyweights Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy collectively known as the “Big 3.”
Speaking in a recent interview with Complex, Ayra Starr boldly asserted Wizkid’s place at the top of the genre.
She explained that she decided to feature the Starboy crooner in her hit song ‘Gimme Dat’ because no one does “sexy Afrobeats” better than him.
“Nobody else could have been right on that song [‘Gimme Dat’] aside from Wizkid. Even just his sonics and the sound, the chorus pattern feels very Wizkid; it feels very like sexy Afrobeats. And everybody knows
