A former military governor of Plateau state, Colonel Mohammed Mana (rtd), has passed away.
In a statement, President Bola Tinubu conveyed his sorrow for Mana’s passing, as The Nation reported.
Mana, who was also a former senator passed away on Saturday, August 23, in Abuja, according to reports.
From 2007 to 2011, the late Mana, a leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), served as the senatorial representative for Adamawa North.
He also chaired the Adamawa state party’s reconciliation committee till his passing.
President Tinubu referred to the dead as a “distinguished patriot and officer gentleman” who devoted his life to serving Nigeria, both in and out of military uniform, in a condolence letter sent by presidential spokeswoman Bayo Onanuga. He commended Mana’s efforts to the advancement of the country and his unwavering commitment to the common good.
The Nigerian leader also sent his condolences to the state’s administration and citizens, as well as to the state’s APC members, who he said greatly benefited from Mana’s insight and leadership. He prayed for Mana’s soul to rest in peace and for his family to have the fortitude to deal with the loss.
According to details obtained, the deceased colonel left behind wives and children. In accordance with Islamic customs, his funeral prayer was conducted at the Abuja National Mosque on Saturday, August 23.
Similarly, Plateau state governor, Caleb Mutfwang wrote in a sympathy statement that the Colonel’s passing was a great loss for everyone in Plateau State and Nigeria, not just his immediate family.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Gyang Bere, Mutfwang praised Mana’s “crucial role” in fostering national cohesiveness, peace, and togetherness both during and after his tenure in government. He encouraged the late statesman’s family and friends to find comfort in the lasting impact of his “exemplary life of service.”

Also, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, governor of Adamawa state, mourned the former governor’s demise. In a statement shared via his X handle, he wrote, “It is with a heavy heart that I mourn the passing of Col. Muhammad Mana (Former Military Administrator, Plateau state and senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria)— a patriot, statesman, and worthy son of Adamawa. May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings, grant him Jannatul Firdaus, and comfort his family and all who mourn.”
