The Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, has expressed concern over the recent increase in international passport fees.
In a post shared on his official X handle on Thursday, Peter Obi criticized the move, stating that the administration’s growing tendency to burden citizens is becoming increasingly alarming.
The Federal Government had earlier on Thursday announced the upward review of fees for international passports.
With the new increase, a 32-page booklet goes for N100,000, while 64 pages goes for N200,000.
Reacting, the former Anambra state governor said in a country where the new minimum wage is only N70,000, the cost of a single passport now exceeds a worker’s monthly salary.
According to Peter Obi, instead of making life easier, the government keeps shifting the burden onto ordinary Nigerians.
“It is alarming that the price of the international passport is higher than what workers earn in a month,” he wrote.
