A woman known only as Amaye was lynched and set on fire by Muslim youths in Niger State after allegedly making blasphemous comments about Prophet Muhammad.
The incident reportedly took place on Saturday evening in Kasuwan-Garba town, located in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State.
Multiple sources reveal that the victim, a food vendor, was accused of making the offensive remarks at her restaurant following a customer’s joking expression of interest in marrying her, referencing the Prophet’s tradition.
Reports indicated that the woman was earlier whisked to the palace of the District Head of Kasuwan-Garba by residents to forestal the plans of the mob.
However, the District Head reportedly handed her over to security operatives for investigation but the mob pounced on her after overwhelming the operatives.

Chairman of Mariga LGA, Abbas Adamu Kasuwan-Garba, who confirmed the incident, said normalcy had been restored in the town.
Spokesman of the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun also confirmed the development.
Abiodun noted that the woman “was set ablaze before the reinforcement of the security teams”.
“Meanwhile, efforts are being made to ensure that arrests are effected, investigated and prosecuted,” the police spokesman added.
