The upper legislative chamber had initially adjourned on July 24 for its annual break, with a planned resumption date of September 23.

However, according to a memo signed by the Chief of Staff to the Senate President, Chinedu Akubueze, and obtained on September 23, the resumption was postponed to October 7.

Meanwhile, the Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, is expected to officially return to plenary today following the completion of her six-month suspension.

She was suspended on March 6 for alleged misconduct and failure to adhere to the Senate’s seating arrangement during a plenary session held on February 20.

At the time, the Senate leadership stated that a written apology from Natasha could lead to an early end to the suspension. However, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan declined to issue an apology. Instead, she accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment—allegations that sparked multiple legal proceedings during her suspension period.

Following the completion of the six-month term, her office—located in Suite 2.05 of the Senate Wing—was reopened on September 23.

Shortly after Natasha’s return to the office, Kenny Okolugbo, Consultant on Communication and Strategy to the Senate President, stated in a Channels TV interview that the Senate would decide today, October 7, 2025, whether or not she will officially resume her legislative duties.

Security around the National Assembly complex has been increased to prevent any potential protests.

This comes after the management of the National Assembly issued a warning on Sunday against any picketing of the premises. The caution followed threats of industrial action by members of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), citing unresolved welfare and constitutional concerns affecting staff.
