The Labour Movement and the late campaigner Abiodun Aremu’s family have decided to move his funeral to Thursday, October 23, 2025.
This will give sympathisers and organised labour enough time to organise and bid him farewell.
The Nigeria Labour Movement stated that Aremu, 65, who passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2025, was supposed to be buried on Monday, October 13, but the date was rescheduled by “about two weeks” to accommodate more people.

In a statement released on Monday, Owei Lakemfa, a former acting general secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress and former secretary-general of the Organisation of African Trade Union Unity, made this announcement.
The funeral will take place at No. 30 Kabiru Fatoye Street (opposite Alaka Field, Ijako Sugar Bus Stop), Ifo Road, Lagos–Abeokuta Motorway, according to the announcement.
The veteran labour leader and Secretary of the Joint Action Front was reported to have been knocked down by a vehicle around 6 p.m. on Sunday while crossing the road near his residence in Ota, Ogun State.
According to reports, he was rushed to a nearby hospital, where efforts to resuscitate him failed, and he was unfortunately pronounced dead.
Lakemfa extended the movement’s condolences to Aremu’s family.
He said, “Our hearts are with the dear family of our departed Comrade.”
He described Aremu as “one of the greatest revolutionaries and internationalists of our time.”
“Comrade Abiodun ‘Aremson’ Aremu joined the pantheon of revolutionaries on Sunday, October 12, 2025. He was an inimitable leader of the working class in Nigeria who developed enduring structures for collaboration and growth within the labour movement, including the Labour–Civil Society Coalition, LASCO, and the Kolagbodi Memorial Foundation.
“The Comrade-Leader also built the Amilcar Cabral Ideological School, ACIS-M, to conscientise the youth, provide them with praxis, and nurture their development into full revolutionaries capable of changing the world.
“Aremu also served as Secretary of the Nigeria Movement for the Liberation of Western Sahara and the Nigerian Movement of Solidarity with Cuba.
“He was a recipient of the Friendship Medal awarded by the Cuban government to outstanding internationalists.

“The greatest honour we can give our fearless teacher and leader is to continue in his footsteps and build a world founded on social justice,” he said.
Former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress and Convener of the #RevolutionNow Movement, Omoyele Sowore, has mourned the death of renowned activist and Secretary of the Joint Action Front, Abiodun Aremu.
