Abdullahi Abbass, a 19-year-old teenage teacher, was given a life sentence by Justice Osho Adebiyi of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja for raping a 9-year-old student in the FCT’s Kwali Area Council.
In a statement issued on Saturday, November 1, Vincent Adekoye, the National Press Officer of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), told reporters that the ruling was another significant development in the fight against sexual violence in Nigeria.

The teenage teacher, Abbass was the victim’s class teacher at one of Kwali’s top schools.
The statement read “On the 19th March 2025, after school hours, he sent another pupil to call the victim from their home. He thereafter took the victim down the street where he lived and raped the male victim through the anus. The report indicated that despite the threat from the convict, the victim reported the incident to his mother, which led to his arrest by the Police and the subsequent referral of the case to NAPTIP.”

According to Section 2 of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act, 2015, the offence is criminal.

On October 29, 2025, he was found guilty after being charged with two counts of sexual abuse and rape.
