Babachir Lawal blows hot, says bandits, terrorists better armed than Nigerian Army

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir Lawal, has stated that bandits and terrorists in the country are better armed than Nigerian soldiers.

Lawal said this on Monday in an interview with Politics Today, a Channels Television program.

He made the remarks in reaction to the state of national security.

“Is it amazing that these bandits and terrorists are from the same tribe and religion? They are better armed than the Nigerian soldiers; the resources at their disposal are quite enormous, proof that somebody somewhere is funding them.

“Does it not occur to you that someone or a group of people somewhere are funding them? Because resources at their disposal are so enormous. The only thing they have not started doing is to fly helicopters and carry out their heinous activities,” he said.

Lawal, who served as SGF under the administration of the late President Muhammadu Buhari, specifically said President Bola Tinubu’s government is not interested to tackle insecurity.

Babachir Lawal claimed that Muhammadu Buhari’s and Goodluck Jonathan’s governments outperformed Tinubu’s.

He maintained that Adamawa, a state in the northeast, was comparatively quiet before to Tinubu’s arrival in May 2023.

However, he asserted that the security situation had gotten worse after two years of this administration.

Lawal also slammed Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Advisor, claiming that he had not yet witnessed any attempts to address killings and other security risks.
