According to a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information & Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, verified reports show that Achaba operations have resurfaced in several areas within Kano city.

The commissioner also said there are reports of similar activities in nearby and border communities, even though the business “has long been banned in the state.”

The Kano government added that it has received intelligence about unknown individuals using motorcycles to operate as commercial riders in some parts of the metropolis.

“While the Government acknowledges the public recommendations on enhanced monitoring, including surveillance at all entry and exit points of the state, the Kano State Government wishes to assure citizens that these suggestions are currently being reviewed as part of a broader security assessment and response strategy.”

It said new steps are being taken to protect lives and property across all 44 local government areas.

The government assured residents that security agencies “are on top of the situation” and have been given all the support they need. It also said it is ready to provide “any additional assistance required” to help them do their work effectively.

Officials said the public’s suggestions, including better surveillance at all entry and exit points are being reviewed as part of an ongoing security assessment.

The government thanked the people of Kano for their vigilance and cooperation and urged them to stay alert, report suspicious activities, and keep supporting security agencies.

It reaffirmed that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is fully committed to tackling security challenges and will continue working with local councils, traditional rulers, community leaders, security agencies, and citizens’ groups to restore peace and stability in the state.

“We reaffirm that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf remains fully committed to addressing all security-related challenges and will continue to work closely with local government leadership, traditional institutions, community leaders, security agencies, and citizens’ groups to ensure that full-scale security, stability, and peace are restored in Kano State,” he said.
