Martin Amaewhule, the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, joined the All Progressives Congress.
Amaewhule and fifteen other House members defected on Friday.
The defecting members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are blaming the party’s crisis for their decision to leave the party during the current session of the House of Assembly.
Their defection comes barely twenty four hours after members of the house endorsed Tinubu for a second tenure, appreciating his leadership and further describing him a s a “compassionate leader”
Additionally, the defection comes amid speculation of fresh political tension and reports that the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike is fast loosing influence with President Tinubu, following mounting pressure on the president to disassociate from the minister amid a wave of controversies involving the minister..
Sources privy to the development had revealed that the shocking defection of Rivers house of assembly members is largely by the FCT minister doing, allegedly in a bid to be on Tinubu’s good books.
It is still unknown what this means for the Rivers state governor, Siminalaiyi Fubara and if his defection should be anticipated anytime soon.
