A political group in Ogun State, the Tinubu Mandate Support Group, has called on Governor Dapo Abiodun to run for the Ogun East Senatorial District seat after completing his second term in 2027.
The appeal was made on Tuesday during a solidarity visit to the governor at his Oke Mosan office in Abeokuta by the group, led by former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Rev. Sola Salau.
Speaking to journalists after the visit, Salau said the group brought the appeal directly to the governor to demonstrate how strongly the people of Ogun East support him and want him to take up the senatorial position.
He disclosed that though he defected from the PDP to the APC in less than three months ago, he has embarked on massive mobilization to rally support across Ogun East for the Governor come 2027.
Salau stated further that the group has been working with the Arewa and Ndi’Igbo Communities in the state to ensure the success of the senatorial journey of the governor.
He said though the governor is yet to accede to the call to contest for the Senate, the group will continue to lobby and spur him into action, stressing that Governor Abiodun has not only delivered on his electoral promises to the people of the state, but has further opened up Ogun East to foreign investment, hence the need to continue the delivery of good governance as a senator.
He added that the group is equally mobilizing for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the second term, declaring that the group would soon embark on a mobilization tour to market the president to all the nooks of Ogun.
Salau, however, disclosed that his group will formally launch “Dapo Abiodun for Senate 2027” support group on December 17, 2025 in Isara-Remo, Ikenne Local Government Area of the state.
Also speaking, the Coordinator of Arewa APC Community in Ogun State, Shuaibu Ghanga, expressed the readiness of the Arewa people in Ogun State to mobilize actual voters for the re-election of President Tinubu.
He added that the community will also continue to rally support for Governor Abiodun to contest for the Senate in 2027.
