The entertainment sector in Nigeria has had a very turbulent 2025. Beyond the music, movies, and viral loved-up moments, celebrity love stories broke down in highly visible ways that sparked, major heartbreaks, triggered suicide attempts and became topics for debate across the national.
Here are 6 most dramatic celebrity breakups that made spicy headlines and fans couldn’t stop talking about.
2Baba and Annie Macaulay Idibia
On Sunday, January 26, 2025, celebrity singer Innocent Idibia, better known by his stage name 2Baba, shocked fans by announcing the dissolution of his nearly 12-year marriage to actress Annie Macaulay Idibia.
In a post went viral in minutes, 2baba said, “Hello to my beautiful people of all federations. Well, this thing I have to say is short but also long… Annie Macaulay and I have been separated for a while now and have currently filed for divorce. I would grant a press release soon to tell my story. Not because it is anyone’s right to know about my personal life but because I love my people and I need them to know my innocence or offence.”
What followed was a long series of back and forth along with the announcement of his new found love with Senator Natasha Osuwaru.
However, the new couple not long after, found themselves in fresh wave of controversy following a heated argument on Media personality, Daddy Freeze’s live session.
Ijoba Lande and Dara
After weeks of accusations, counter-accusations, and discoveries that unfolded in interviews and on social media, comedian and sketch creator Ganiyu Morufu, better known by his stage as Ijoba Lande, witnessed the public collapse of his marriage.
When his estranged wife, Darasimi, also known as Dara, gave a widely shared interview in which she accused the comedian of neglect, emotional distance, and desertion and said that the marriage had broken down long before public drama, the situation came to light. She claimed that the relationship had become oppressive, devoid of basic companionship and trust, and that she felt alone in the partnership.
In a different interview, Lande refuted her assertions, claiming that their marriage broke down due to infidelity. He said that Dara had an improper relationship with Babatunde Tayo, also known as Baba Tee, a Nollywood actress. The accusation went viral on social media right once, involving several parties in what turned out to be one of the year’s messiest celebrity marital scandals.
At first, Baba Tee dismissed the accusations as unfounded and denied any wrongdoing. However, when the actor eventually acknowledged having a brief sexual experience with Dara, the story took a drastic turn.
Peller and Jarvis
Another celebrity love story that hit rock bottom and eventually crashed in 2025 was that of clebrity TikToker and social media influencer, Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, and his girlfriend, Jarvis.
Peller was taken into custody by the Lagos State Police during the week after a heartbreaking livestream titled “RIP Peller.” The influencer looked emotionally overwhelmed while talking on the phone, allegedly with Jarvis, in the footage that was taken inside his just purchased Mercedes-Benz.
Shortly after, the livestream showed a careless drive that resulted in a collision on the Lekki-Epe Motorway, causing damage to the car and raising a lot of concerns online.
Amid the backlash and public debate that followed, Jarvis confirmed the end of their relationship. She appealed to the public to stop mocking Peller, stressing that the situation had gone beyond entertainment.
Portable and Queen Dami
In January 2025, street-pop artist Habeeb Okikiola, better known by his stage name Portable, and his estranged wife, Queen Dami, continued their internet fight with fresh vigour, despite the fact that the couple had already broken up in late 2024.
What started off as cryptic posts soon turned into a full-fledged spectacle of accusations, counter-accusations, and emotional livestreams that brought their personal history into the public eye once more.
After their split, Queen Dami had mostly disappeared from the public eye. However, she made a comeback to social media with a slew of posts accusing Portable of emotional manipulation, neglect, and public humiliation throughout their marriage. She bemoaned that loving the artist had lost her stability, tranquilly, and dignity in one especially viral moment, implying that she had been reduced to a ghost of herself while attempting to withstand his hectic lifestyle.
The singer immediately fired back, describing Queen Dami’s assertions “clout-chasing” in a series of Instagram videos. Insisting that he had “made her somebody,” he accused her of being unappreciative and said that she frequently treated him and his family disrespectfully. His outbursts occasionally strayed from defence to ridicule, further inflaming public opinion.
Portable, however, doubled down. He claimed Queen Dami abandoned the marriage, accused her of infidelity and insisted she could not cope with the realities of being married to a celebrity.
Anita Joseph and MC Fish
Nollywood actress, Anita Joseph, and her husband, Fisayo Olagunju, popularly known as MC Fish, are not left out from the list of celebrity unions that crashed publicly in 2025.
Anita confirmed the news in an Instagram post on December 22, when she posted pictures of herself wearing a wedding gown along with the comment, even though the story was initially reported by many blogs.
“Life has a way of testing our strength in ways we never expect, especially in marriage. Lately, I’ve been walking through a season of deep reflection, pain and healing. I may not have all the answers, but I’m choosing grace, growth and faith, one step at a time. Calling a spade a spade, my marriage is over ogbugianyi! Omere ka Anyi Mara ihe!”
Regina Daniels and Ned Nwoko
Nollywood actress Regina Daniel and Senator Ned Nwoko’s marriage also made the list of celebrity love stories that crashed in 2025. The once admirable celebrity duo made headlines following Regina’s accusations of Violence on Ned.
The senator responded to her claims, accusing her of doing drugs and becoming an addict, What followed was a line up of messy family drama including the alleged arrest of Regina’s brother by Ned Nwoko and the actress loosing access to her kids and eventually leading to the death of the relationship.
