Fresh explosions have hit the Dansadau road in Zamfara, killing no less than nine people, making it the second of its kind in less than a week.

According to reports, the explosion was said to have happened around the Mai Aya Aya spot just before the Kwankelai junction, along the old Danguibi Road. It was close to the Ruwan Dawa village and Magamin Maitarko.

Still on reports, bandits were suspected of having planted the Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) at three different locations to cause the explosions, with no target in mind but to create chaos and have multiple casualties.

An eyewitness, Malam Yunusa Isah, a resident of Malele village, who saw the explosions, disclosed that the first explosion killed four people immediately. He further explained that another explosion happened when a trailer ran over the second IED, and five people died on the spot.

Another eyewitness, Mal. Nuhu Ibrahim Dansadau, who also confirmed Malam Yunusa’s statement and is another resident in the village, said that while the first two explosions killed nine people, the number of casualties in the third explosion is still being compiled.

This incident is happening days after the United States launched an attack against terrorist hideouts in Sokoto. Many believe this is just the bandits retaliating against the US attack, as in that same week, the Boko Haram terrorist group bombed a mosque in Maiduguri, killing five people and leaving several injured.

Malam Nuhu also alleged that these attacks were as a result of Governor Dauda Lawal’s visit to the Dansadau community. He further explained that the bandits were working to ensure that the residents were scared and were planning to disrupt the construction company working on the Dansadau road.

DSP Yazid Abubakar, Zamfara State Police Command, also confirmed the incident of suspected explosions of IEDs along the road but could not determine the number of casualties.
