Venezuela’s deposed president, Nicolas Maduro, is reportedly scheduled to appear before a federal judge in New York at noon Monday to be formally notified about the charges against him, the court said.

During a predawn raid on Saturday in Caracas, US soldiers apprehended Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, and transported them to New York to face accusations of “narcoterrorism” related to the alleged trafficking of tonnes of cocaine into the United States.

Following US President Donald Trump’s suggestion that Washington will “run” Venezuela and acquire access to its oil, five Latin American nations as well as Spain issued a warning on Sunday against any outside effort for “control” of the country.

Meanwhile, in a joint statement, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Uruguay, and Spain said they “rejected” Maduro’s removal as president of Venezuela by US forces and expressed “concern about any attempt at governmental control or administration or outside appropriation of natural or strategic resources.”
