President Donald Trump  has strongly threatened that Venezuela’s interim leader, Delcy Rodriguez, will pay a “very big price” if she doesn’t cooperate with the United States.

Recall that in the early of Saturday morning, US forces launched an attack on Caracas, destroying military objectives and evacuating Maduro and his spouse to face federal accusations of drug trafficking in New York.

The Donald Trump administration also stated that it was willing to work with the rest of Maduro’s government as long as Washington’s goals, including opening access to US investment in the enormous Venezuelan crude oil reserves, are met.

Donald Trump’s threat coincides with the confirmation of Rodriguez’s interim presidency by the Venezuelan military and Supreme Court.

Following the US raid on the nation’s capital, Caracas, she sounded a strong note on Saturday, declaring that Maduro was the only legal leader of the nation and that “we’re ready to defend our natural resources.”

Trump on his part has consistently opposed overseas regime change and US nation-building.

However, he said over the weekend that the United States will “run” Venezuela.

President Donald Trump told The Atlantic that “rebuilding there and regime change — anything you want to call it — is better than what you have right now”.

“Rebuilding is not a bad thing in Venezuela’s case. The country’s gone to hell. It’s a failed country. It’s a totally failed country. It’s a country that’s a disaster in every way,” he said.

The 79-year-old Republican also reiterated his repeated calls for the United States to annex Greenland, an autonomous region that is part of Denmark, a NATO partner.

When asked what the US military action in Venezuela signalled for Greenland, Trump told The Atlantic, “They are going to have to view it themselves. I really don’t know.

“But we do need Greenland, absolutely. We need it for defence.”
