The National Association of Resident Doctors has suspended resumption of its strike scheduled for Monday.
The strike suspension, according to NARD, was conditional and would be discussed in its upcoming National Executive Council meeting, which is set to start on January 25, 2026.

The decision was made at a virtual Emergency National Executive Council meeting on January 11, 2026, to review progress on its outstanding demands and ongoing engagements with government agencies, according to a communiqué released following the meeting and signed by the association’s Secretary-General, Dr. Shuaibu Ibrahim.

The resident doctors association also intervention of Vice President Kashim Shettima, acting on behalf of President Bola Tinubu, as part of the basis for the decision.
The association said lists for promotion and salary arrears have also been sent to the Ministry of Finance and the Budget Office, with assurances of an expedited payment plan.

“Locum Practice & Work-Hour Regulation: A multi-stakeholder committee comprising FMoH&SW, CCMDs, NMA, and NARD has been constituted. Preliminary activities have commenced ahead of formal inauguration. Specialist Allowance: Concrete steps have been taken toward full implementation, ” it added.
