Gunmen brutally attack three Kaduna churches, kidnap over 100 worshippers

Gunmen have launched another round of out coordinated attacks on three churches in Kurmin Wali community, Kajuru LGA of Kaduna state, abducting more than 100 worshippers during Sunday services.

The attackers appeared in great numbers, according to the locals, and struck almost simultaneously, encircling places of worship and carrying away worshippers.

Numerous attackers kidnapped dozens of congregants from the Seraphim and Cherubim Church and the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), a Catholic church, on Sunday.

It is still unclear how many people were actually kidnapped, however it is estimated to be over 100.

A member of the Kaduna state house of assembly identified as Usman Danlami Stingo confirmed and to corroborated the incident.

“The churches were surrounded by heavily armed bandits who abducted men, women, and children during the Sunday worship,” he said.

The lawmaker added that “nine of the victims managed to escape while they were being taken to the bush by the attackers”.

“The community is currently conducting a headcount to determine the exact number of people still in captivity,” he said.

As of the time of this report, attempts to contact Mansir Hassan, the spokesperson for the Kaduna police command, were unsuccessful.

In recent years, Kaduna has had a number of bandit raids and kidnappings.

Bobbo Paschal, the priest of St. Stephen’s parish in Kushe Gugdu, the state’s Kagarko LGA, was kidnapped by bandits in November 2025 during a gunman attack.

Numerous locals were kidnapped during the attack, and it was also said that Anthony Yero’s brother, a diocese priest, was killed.
