Buni Raises Alarm Over Severe Humanitarian Threat to Two Million Yobe Residents

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has revealed that of the 5.9 million people expected to face severe humanitarian challenges in the North-East, two million are residents of Yobe State.

He made the statement on Wednesday during the official launch of the 2026 Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan (HNRP) at the United Nations House in Abuja.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Baba Malam Wali, Governor Buni reiterated the state’s dedication to safeguarding the welfare, protection, and future of children across Yobe State.

“No child would be left behind or exposed to harm, even amid protracted humanitarian challenges facing the region,” he said.

Governor Buni acknowledged key humanitarian needs and called for sustained, coordinated, and locally driven action.

“The state is advancing its Durable Solutions Agenda through the State Action Plan on Solutions to Internal Displacement, shifting from emergency response to long-term recovery, resilience, and development,” he said.

Buni reaffirmed Yobe State’s readiness to strengthen coordination, promote accountability, and align humanitarian action with development and peacebuilding efforts.
