President Tinubu Removes Dakingari as Turkey Ambassador Designate, Issues Clarification Statement
The President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has withdrawn the posting of former Kebbi State Governor, Usman Dakingari, as ambassador-designate to Turkey. The decision was confirmed in a statement issued by the presidency on Friday.
The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed that no ambassador has been appointed to Turkey. According to the statement, the Turkish ambassador posting was reversed just hours after the initial announcement was made.
This development came shortly after the president announced the posting of some ambassador designates on Thursday. However, the sudden change of Dakingari has raised several questions around the Turkey ambassador designate posting and the circumstances surrounding his withdrawal.
It will be recalled that President Tinubu approved the posting of four ambassador designates out of the 68 confirmed by the Senate last December. The list initially included Usman Dakingari as ambassador designate to Turkey before it was rescinded.
The statement confirmed the posting of Ambassador Ayodele Oke as ambassador designate to France and Colonel Lateef Are as ambassador designate to the United States of America. It also confirmed Ambassador Amin Dalhatu, former ambassador to South Korea, as the high commissioner designate to the United Kingdom.
“Tinubu has written a memo to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to notify the governments of the three countries about the ambassadors designate, in accordance with diplomatic procedures,” the statement said.
