The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has debunked reports alleging the non-payment of promotion arrears and other entitlements to its personnel.

The promotion arrears controversy followed claims published by some online platforms alleging that personnel owed between 2022 and 2024 had not been paid.

Reacting to the reports, the NSCDC National Public Relations Officer, ACC Afolabi Babawale, described the allegations as false, baseless, misleading, and malicious. He said the publication was a deliberate campaign aimed at misleading the public, creating unnecessary tension, and damaging the credibility of the leadership of the corps.

According to the statement, the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, does not oversee the payment of salary arrears, promotion arrears, or other emoluments. The statement clarified that such payments are handled by the Presidential Committee on Arrears, chaired by the Director General of the Budget Office of the Federation and the Accountant General of the Federation.

Babawale noted that available payment records show clear progress in addressing outstanding arrears. He stated, “ This is incorrect and a complete falsehood. It is on record, that the current leadership of the Corps inherited 5 years of unpaid salary arrears upon assumption of duty in 2021, and with assiduous efforts and interface with government, the CG was able to clear the backlog from 2015 to 2019 where over 37,000 personnel benefited contrary to erroneous claims that he withheld funds meant for personnel welfare.”

The statement reaffirmed that the NSCDC under Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi remains committed to the welfare of its personnel. It added that the corps will not be distracted by blackmail, cyberbullying, or any attempt by individuals or groups to undermine its integrity.

The NSCDC also urged the public, stakeholders, and the media to disregard false publications designed to sow discord among personnel and the leadership of the corps. Media organizations were advised to always verify information through established channels before publication.

The corps appealed to its personnel nationwide to remain calm and patient with the government, assuring them that promised funds for disbursement would be released in due course. The NSCDC promotion arrears issue, according to the corps, is being addressed through the appropriate government mechanisms.
