Peter Obi, a key player within the African Democratic Congress, ADC, has signalled his plan to seek the party’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He expressed this aim while addressing supporters during a campaign event for the ADC candidates in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Area Council elections, which took place at the Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC.
Peter Obi stated in his speech that he would not accept a supporting role in the party’s long-term political plan and that he is aiming for the top spot.
He urged party members and locals to support the ADC candidate, emphasising that the AMAC election is directly related to his broader political goals.
Peter Obi stated that his participation in the upcoming elections is as a main competitor rather than in a supporting one and that winning the AMAC poll will be essential to furthering his political goals.

“This coming election, support us in AMAC; it will help me. Your support in AMAC is critical to our journey. I am involved and contesting the coming election as number one. When I come back, you will see. I assure you,” Obi said.
The ADC leadership is under increasing pressure from Obi’s fans, especially those in the Obidient Movement, to designate him as the party’s standard-bearer for 2027. Many of them are adamant that Obi should receive the ticket by himself.
Atiku Abubakar, the former vice president, and Rotimi Amaechi, the former minister of transport, are among the other prominent politicians with presidential aspirations who are being hosted by the ADC.
