The probe into the Minister of Interior, Tunji Ojo’s certificate, has taken a new turn as the Federal High Court granted an activist, Mr. Emorioloye Owolemi, permission to inquire into the academic qualifications of Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji Ojo.
Justice Binta Nyako gave the approval while ruling on an ex-parte application filed by the social crusader in Abuja.

Owolemi approached the court seeking an order to verify the Secondary School Certificate allegedly issued to the minister by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), citing several discrepancies in the minister’s academic claims.
However, in another related development, another judge of the Federal High Court in Abuja, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, declined a separate request by the activist to probe the discharge certificate reportedly issued to the minister by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Through his lead counsel, Mr. Philemon Yakubu SAN, the activist argued an ex-parte motion brought under Order 34 of the Federal High Court Civil Rules 2019 and sections 1, 20, and 21 of the Freedom of Information Act 2011. He sought an order of mandamus compelling NYSC to release documents relating to Tunji Ojo’s 2006 service year.
Specifically, the applicant asked for Tunji’s monthly clearance records, bank account details, financial information submitted during service, and allowance payment logs, including dates, amounts, and receiving accounts.
He also requested the official NYSC documents on the alleged abscondment, internal memos, and disciplinary reports, as well as registration, posting, and deployment records connected to the minister.

After hearing arguments, Justice Abdulmalik declined the application, ruling that the applicant failed to show he is acting in the public interest as required by law. Speaking with journalists after the court session, Yakubu says he will consult his client on the next line of action.
He also added that his client’s main goal is to promote transparency, accountability, and probity among public office holders in Nigeria. As the Tunji Ojo’s certificate probe continues, many Nigerians are closely watching to see how the legal process unfolds.
