Proceedings at the House of Representatives of Nigeria turned rowdy on Tuesday as lawmakers disagreed over a motion seeking to rescind the passage of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill, Nigeria, throwing the chamber into confusion.
During plenary, Francis Waive, chairman of the House Committee on Rules and Business, moved a motion asking the lawmakers to reverse their earlier decision on the bill, which was passed on December 23, 2025.

The move immediately sparked mixed reactions, with many members questioning the sudden attempt to revisit the Electoral Act Amendment Bill.
When Tajudeen Abbas, Speaker of the House, put the motion to a voice vote, the “nays” were louder than the “ayes,” but he ruled that the ayes had it. This ruling did not go down well with several lawmakers, who openly protested the decision.
The development triggered loud objections across the chamber, with lawmakers hollering in disagreement over the handling of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill. Abbas later called for an executive session, but the proposal was also rejected by members.

Despite the resistance, the Speaker proceeded to move the House into an executive session, further heightening tensions on the floor. The incident underscored deep divisions among lawmakers over the fate of the Electoral Act Amendment.
Recall that when the Green Chamber passed the electoral act in December, it adopted a proposal mandating the real-time transmission of election results to the Independent National Electoral Commission result viewing portal, IReV. That provision has since remained a major talking point in national political discourse.

The latest drama has continued to draw public attention, as Nigerians closely monitor developments surrounding the Electoral Act Amendment Bill Nigeria and its implications for future elections.
