Governors Agbu Kefas of Taraba State and Hyacinth Alia of Benue State have joined forces to tackle worsening insecurity crisis in border communities in their respective states.
The Governors reassured displaced residents in southern Taraba of increased security presence, immediate relief assistance, and ongoing government support to enable their safe return to their ancestral homes as part of a renewed effort to curb insecurity and restore stability in troubled border communities.
During a high-level peace meeting on Monday at the Wukari local government council, the commitment was made.

According to sources, the purpose of the engagement was to identify long-term solutions to the ongoing conflict that has caused unrest in a number of villages along Taraba State’s southern axis.
The meeting which brought together top government figures, security heads, and traditional rulers from both states, highlighted what observers described as a decisive step toward rebuilding trust and reinforcing cross border cooperation.
Speaking to the audience, Governor Alia clarified that in an effort to put a stop to the ongoing violence, he led the Benue delegation to improve cooperation with the Taraba state administration and traditional institutions.

“Lasting peace can only be achieved through collective efforts and mutual understanding between our states,” Alia noted.
He pointed out the crucial role that traditional leaders play in resolving disputes and promoting grassroots peace, pointing out that institutions that are trusted by the local populace must be the foundation of long-term stability.
Speaking as well, Governor Kefas reaffirmed the administration’s unwavering commitment to bringing peace back to all impacted communities. He characterised the combined session as a potent display of both governments’ common determination and political will to address instability.

The governors who visited Abako and Chanchanji communities providing refuge for displaced persons, reassured the IDPs of enhanced security deployment, prompt delivery of relief materials, and continued humanitarian intervention to enable a safe and dignified return to their homes.
Attenders and those present have described the move as part of broader efforts to promote unity, deepen inter state collaboration, and entrench sustainable peace in volatile border communities.
