Amid preparations for the 2027 general elections, Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo has urged President Tinubu not to worry about campaigning for his re-election in the state, hinting at a one-party system with his recent comment.
The governor made these remarks in the state capital of Benin City on Wednesday, Okpebholo while addressing defectors from opposing political groups.
In a video obtained by Channels Tv, the governor revealed that although the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) now had 31 governors in office, more were anticipated to join.

The governor was also mocked radio presenters Rufai and Reuben Abati of Arise TV, over their disapproval of the APC led administration
Recall that three governors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and one from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) recently defected, strengthening the APC’s political hold in the North.

They include governors Agbu Kefas (Taraba State), Caleb Manasseh (Plateau State), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), and Abba Yusuf (Kano).
The defections have been linked to an existing internal leadership issuu within the PDP that has resulted in division between some of its members, including members of the National Assembly, who also have recently defected to other parties.
The party, however, insists that it is still a strong opponent.

Governor Okpebholo’s comments comes following his declaration to resign from office, should President Tinubu fail to emerge winner of the general elections in 2027.
The governor’s latest remarks once again raises concerns about the subject of a one-party system in Nigeria. Although key political figures have continue to debunk the claim, with 31 governors already in the ruling APC, it is uncertain how much weight opposition parties can wield in the coming days.
