Suspected gunmen on Thursday night killed a former caretaker chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area in Benue State, Udeh Ijachi.

Ijachi, widely known as “Honourable Ukpem,” was reportedly shot dead by unidentified attackers in an incident that has left residents of Otukpo in Benue State shocked.
Eyewitnesses said the attack occurred in front of Okabido Hotel in Benue State, where the former council boss was allegedly ambushed. According to reports from the scene, the assailants opened fire on him before fleeing the area.
The sound of gunshots caused panic in the neighbourhood, with residents and passers-by rushing out shortly afterward to find out what had happened. Many described the incident as disturbing, noting that the area was thrown into confusion following the shooting.

As of the time of filing this report, security authorities had not issued an official statement on the killing. However, investigations are expected to begin to uncover the circumstances surrounding the attack and identify those responsible.
Ijachi previously served as caretaker chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area and was well known within political and community circles in the state.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear.
Meanwhile, residents have called on security agencies to thoroughly investigate the incident and strengthen security in the area to prevent similar attacks in the future.
