The distribution, which took place on March 5, 2026, was organized by NEMA’s Ibadan Operations Office as part of efforts to alleviate the economic impact of the fire disaster on the affected traders.

The intervention underscores the Federal Government’s commitment, through NEMA, to support disaster victims and assist them in recovering from their losses.

According to the statement by NEMA, the General Manager of the Osun State Emergency Management Agency, OSEMA, Barrister Aderigbigbe Bukola, who spoke during the exercise urged traders to remain disaster-conscious.

He emphasised the need for adopting effective preventive measures to reduce the risk of similar incidents in the future.

The Head of Operations of the NEMA Ibadan Operations Office, Mr. Kadiri Olanrewaju, who flagged off the distribution, called on beneficiaries to strengthen their preparedness and response mechanisms.

“While relief materials provide support, they cannot fully compensate for the losses suffered by the victims,” he said.

Olanrewaju further highlighted the importance of establishing Local Emergency Management Committees, LEMCs, to improve disaster prevention, mitigation, and response at the grassroots level.

The Governor of Osun State was represented by the Special Adviser on Disaster Management, Hon. Eniola Fakeye. She commended NEMA for its swift intervention.

She also highlighted the importance of taking early and active steps to prevent and manage disaster risks in communities across the state.

Several stakeholders were present at the exercise, including the Chairman of the Osun State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Ibukun Fadipe, the Chairman of Ilesa West Local Government Area, market leaders, security officials, and other key personnel.

The traders who received the relief materials thanked NEMA for the quick support and promised to use the items responsibly.
