Adamu Abubakar, the oldest son of former vice president Atiku Abubakar, has joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Adamu, a former Adamawa State commissioner, resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday, according to sources.

Adamu Abubakar finished his online registration with the ADC, the party where his father hopes to run in the 2027 election, a few hours after he resigned.
In an X post on Thursday night, Adamu called on “all my supporters and well wishers to join me by registering with the ADC as we work together to advance the cause of good governance and national development”.

His latest move comes few days after he dramatically stepped down from his role as Commissioner for Works and Energy Development in Adamawa State following the Adamawa state governor, Fintiri’s defection to the APC.
In a resignation letter dated March 2, 2026, and addressed to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Atiku Adamu explained that his decision came after “deep personal reflection and careful consideration.”

He described his time in office as a privilege, expressing gratitude to the governor for the opportunity to serve.
Recall that Adamu had previously rejected invitations to join the APC in February.
