The governor, who is currently in Saudi Arabia for the Lesser Hajj, expressed deep grief over the attack, noting that it targeted innocent residents during the holy month of Ramadan.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya, Zulum urged residents to remain vigilant and called on security agencies to enhance surveillance, especially around mosques and other public places.

“I am deeply saddened by the explosions that occurred in parts of the metropolis on Monday evening. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims and those injured as a result of the blast,” Zulum said.

“The act is utterly condemnable, barbaric and inhumane,” he added.

The governor suggested that the renewed attacks may be a reaction to ongoing military operations targeting insurgents in the Sambisa Forest and other hideouts across the region.

Despite the incident, Zulum reassured residents that the military and other security agencies are on top of the situation and are taking steps to forestall further attacks.

He appealed to the public to remain calm, go about their lawful activities, and cooperate with security operatives.

The governor also urged residents to promptly report any suspicious movement or activity within their communities to the appropriate authorities.

Zulum reiterated his administration’s commitment to collaborating with security agencies to ensure the protection of lives and property across Borno State.
