Health workers under the Joint Health Sector Unions and the Assembly of Healthcare Professional Associations are protesting at the Unity Fountain in Abuja.
The National Assembly’s proposed health sector regulating measure is the target of the demonstration.
The protesting medical professionals oppose the bill, arguing that if it were to be approved, the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria would regulate all medical professions.

They contend that the new bill was intended to treat other health professionals as inferior to medical doctors and that all health professions have their own regulatory agencies.
The health workers cautioned that the proposed rule could reduce other healthcare professionals to subservient status, arguing that each profession already has its own regulating body.
Additionally, they said that the measure is intended to treat non-physician health workers as “second-class” to physicians.

Protesting health workers declared that they would go to the National Assembly building to voice their complaints to legislators and demand that the proposed legislation be given another look.
Recall that the unions had declared their intention to hold a nationwide demonstration in Abuja in opposition to the Health Sector Executive Bills 2026 that are presently being considered by the National Assembly.
