The Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Hon. Muhammad Ankwai, passed away last night.
Muhammad Ankwai, who represented Zuru Constituency under the All Progressives Congress (APC), was elected Speaker at the inauguration of the 10th Assembly on June 8, 2023.

Ankwai passed away on Monday evening in Cairo, Egypt, where he had been on admitted for treatment on an undisclosed ailment, according to a statement issued by Murtala Diri, an official of the Kebbi State House of Assembly.
Mr Diri, in the statement shared on his official Facebook page, described the death of Ankwai as a significant loss to his community.
“The death of the Speaker is a significant loss to his constituents, the legislative body, and the state in general,” the statement noted.

The statement also indicated that funeral arrangements will be announced subsequently by the state govt.
However, his passing has sparked an outpouring of grief from Kebbi State people, political allies, and other lawmakers, many of whom have characterised him as a committed public servant who helped shape the state’s legislative landscape.

His family is anticipated to make other burial-related statements shortly.
