The development signals a fresh escalation, with renewed attacks reported in the capital. This comes barely 48 hours after US president, Donald Trump issues a fresh deadline to Iran over the Strait of Hormuz.

Residents have been thrown into fear and panic as the situation continues to unfold.

Meanwhile, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) had announced on Monday that it conducted a series of precision strikes targeting critical Iranian military and industrial infrastructure, including three airports in Tehran and the country’s largest petrochemical complex.

In a statement posted on X, the IDF had said, “Numerous aerial assets, including aircraft and helicopters, as well as additional military infrastructure at 3 airports across Tehran —the Bahram, Mehrabad & Azmayesh Airports” were struck.

The statement had added that “Mehrabad Airport was used by the IRGC’s Quds Force and served as a central hub for arming and financing the regime’s terrorist proxies in the Middle East.”

Targeting Tehran’s most strategically significant locations, the operation sought to impair Iran’s military apparatus’s operational and logistical capacities.
