There was a heavy deployment of armed police personnel at the Mundubawa residence of former Kano State Governor, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, ahead of his expected defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday.

The APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda Goshewa, is set to officially receive the former Minister of Education and ex-Senator who represented Kano Central Senatorial District.
Earlier reports had suggested that Shekarau was yet to finalize his move from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as consultations with his Shura Council—whom he traditionally engages before making major political decisions—were still ongoing.

However, the APC National Chairman is expected to formally welcome the former governor at his Mundubawa residence, alongside his supporters and members of the Shura Council.
Political analysts have noted that Shekarau’s defection to the APC could strengthen the party’s position in Kano State, while posing fresh challenges for Rabiu Kwankwaso and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in gaining wider acceptance.
